The 31st annual Sunshine Coast April Fool's Run presented by Coast Cable Communications is this Sunday, April 6, starting in front of Sunnycrest Mall and Elphinstone Secondary School in Gibsons at 9 a.m. Runners will use the entire southbound curb lane between Shaw Road and Pratt Road, before turning down Pratt. Please obey directions from flag persons and volunteers and proceed slowly in the left lane if heading into Gibsons on Highway 101 between 8:55 and 9:05 a.m., or choose an alternate route such as Reed Road.
The run finishes in Davis Bay again this year, just past Pier 17 Market. Highway 101 in Davis Bay will be closed between 9:55 a.m. and noon, with all through traffic detoured along Whitaker and Bay Roads in both directions. Only buses, police and emergency vehicles and residents of Highway 101 along the Davis Bay waterfront will be allowed access.
Please obey temporary no parking signs near the finish line. This applies to both sides of the highway between Davis Bay Road and the pier, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. If you park in this area you won't be able to drive away until after the race is over, and spectators will probably lean or sit on your vehicle.
See www.foolsrun.com/traffic.htm for more details and course map. Residents along the route are encouraged to come out and cheer on the participants: play music, ring bells, shake pom-poms, make some noise and help your neighbourhood win the title of "best cheering centre."
Online registration is closed, but you can still sign up for the run. Late registration is happening at the Cedars Inn Hotel and Convention Centre from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, and from 7:30 to 8:45 a.m. at Sunnycrest Mall on Sunday. Late registration is $35 with a $2 discount for 19 and under and over 60.
