It’s time to register for the 40th annual April Fool’s Run half-marathon and relay.
The BMO Sunshine Coast April Fool’s Run, presented by Coast Cable, will take place on April 2 starting at 9:17 a.m. beside the Gibsons and Area Community Centre. The annual event will see more than 600 racers run, walk or relay their way from Gibsons to Mission Point Park in Sechelt – a total of 21 km.
The odd start time was picked to fit with the fool theme and participants are encouraged to get in the spirit by dressing up and strutting their foolish fashions during the race. The best-dressed participant, decided by audience applause, will win a prize during the post event wrap-up at Mission Point Park where there will be music, food and festivities for everyone to enjoy.
Starting at 11 a.m. at Mission Point Park, the Home Healthcare Network will offer a kids’ activity tent while little ones wait for their turn to run in a free Jester Dash presented by Pastimes.
The free kids’ run is limited to the first 50 children aged seven and under who sign up. Registration can be found at www.foolsrun.com/kids.htm.
Relay teams and individual walkers/runners in the Fool’s Run who register by March 29 get $5 off their entry fee. Racers can register online at www.foolsrun.com.
“Our early registration numbers are way up this year,” said co-race director Teresa Nightingale, noting the race has a special theme this year, which might be drawing more interest. “There is more fun and energy being created by emphasizing a retro-themed celebration for this year, including some classic ’70s snacks and music. We’re looking forward to seeing people’s creativity in ’70s-style outfits for the costume contest.”
