The U18 Sunshine Coast Storm made it a perfect 10 consecutive wins on Sunday, beating the visiting VAFC Devils 2-1 at Brothers Park in Gibsons. It was only the Storm’s third home game and probably the toughest yet as the Devils defended well and mounted repeated counterattacks.

If it weren’t for solid goal tending from Charlotte Buhr, the Storm may well have found themselves behind. Nisha Wells put the home team up 1-0 after connecting on an in-swinging corner-kick from Ingrid Hansen.

Holly Gray-Pearl went close to adding a second in the second half, first-timing a shot that was deflected wide. The Storm finally got a two-goal cushion when Emily Bullen accelerated past two defenders and hammered the ball into the roof of the net – her second goal in as many games.

In the final minutes, the Devils were awarded a penalty kick for a handball and duly scored before dashing for the ferry at the final whistle. It was just the fourth goal conceded by the Storm all season. The Storm play in Port Coquitlam this Sunday.
