Search teams urge anyone lost in the North Shore mountains to stay put and call for help

After a decade in his position at School District No. 46 (SD46), superintendent Patrick Bocking has announced he will retire in six months.

The Sunshine Coast RCMP are asking for the public’s help to locate a man wanted on three outstanding arrest warrants. The warrants were issued after Jarrett Lernowich, 33, failed to appear in Sechelt provincial court, RCMP said in a news release.

Sunshine Coast Search and Rescue (SAR), BC Parks staff and Tetrahedron Outdoor Club volunteers are pleading with the public to stay out of the four backcountry cabins at Tetrahedron Provincial Park.

They began in Newfoundland in 2019, got as far as Quebec in 2020 and by December 2021 two hikers with a Sechelt connection are hoping to make it to the Sunshine Coast.

Sunshine Coasters (and others) have a little over two weeks – until Jan. 31 – to answer questions and share their ideas about the unfolding land use planning process that the shíshálh Nation and B.C. government are jointly undertaking.

The public comment period is open for the first phase in drafting the shíshálh-B.C. Land Use Plan. An online questionnaire and details of the joint land use plan can be accessed at landuseplanning.gov.bc.ca. The closing date for comments is Jan. 31.
