On the evening of March 27, a witness reported a suspicious male entering a property on Dolphin Street near Ocean Avenue, Sechelt, and loading some fencing onto his vehicle before driving away. Police located the vehicle and the fencing a short distance away and initiated a traffic stop. The driver was arrested for theft and released on an undertaking. The property was returned to the owner and the file is still under investigation.
Impaired Collision
• On March 23, police attended a single-vehicle incident on Highway 101 near Trout Lake Road, Halfmoon Bay, after a westbound vehicle lost control, struck some community mailboxes, and ended up in the ditch. The uninjured driver and passenger were able to exit the vehicle on their own. After police located multiple open bottles of alcohol in the vehicle, the driver was given a roadside alcohol-screening test. After two fail results, the driver was issued a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days. The matter has been referred to RoadSafetyBC.
Collision
• On March 24, police attended a single-vehicle incident on Highway 101 near Sakinaw Lake Road, Pender Harbour, after a vehicle went off road and down an embankment. Fortunately, both the driver and passenger managed to exit the vehicle on their own by the time police and Emergency Health Services arrived. The driver, who was not impaired, advised she had looked over to her passenger briefly while travelling east, and somehow drove off road, losing control before heading down the side and coming to a rest against some trees. The pair were taken to Sechelt Hospital for minor injuries and the vehicle was towed from the scene. The matter has been referred to ICBC.
Break and Enter
• Early on March 24, a Coast resident reported hearing a thumping noise but when he went to investigate the front door, found it secure so went back to bed. Later that same day, the resident realized someone had attempted a break and enter to the residence in the 800 block of Park Road, Gibsons, after discovering a basement sliding door forced open and a lock box damaged by some kind of pry tool. Fortunately, it appears the suspect was scared off before they actually entered the premises. The only missing item noted by the resident is a mail key.
Theft
• On March 27, a theft was reported at a business in the 6000 block of Sechelt Inlet Road, Sechelt. The owner believed the theft occurred sometime in the week previous. The suspect gained access to the business property and stole a kicker style outboard motor and two Bravo Mercury Cruiser leg style motors. Anyone with any information about this theft is asked to contact RCMP, reference police file number 2021-1924.
• Between March 23 and 25, a suspect or suspects stole a number of construction signs from road work zones on Gibsons Way and Crucil Road, Gibsons. The stolen signs, which are all orange and have a red DPF sticker on the back, say Flagger, Construction, Single Lane Traffic, and Prepare to Stop. Anyone with any information about this theft is asked to contact RCMP, reference police file number 2021-1987.
• On March 27, a theft occurred at a business in the 900 block of Gibsons Way, Gibsons. The female suspect, who was caught on surveillance video, stole a pair of shoes. Police are reviewing the video footage and the file is still under investigation.
Mischief
• On March 25, police attended a mischief report at a business in the 5600 block of Highway 101, Sechelt, after the suspect kicked a glass door, shattering it in the process, before fleeing the scene on foot. The incident was captured on security video and police are reviewing the footage. The file is still under investigation.
Impaired Driving
• On March 26, a witness approached a police officer parked on Highway 101 near Pell Road, Roberts Creek, and alerted him to a possible impaired driver heading towards Roberts Creek Road. Police followed the vehicle and witnessed it being driven erratically, so initiated a traffic stop. The lone driver and occupant advised he’d consumed alcohol shortly before driving and was given a roadside alcohol-screening test. After two fail results, the driver was issued a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days. Due to the urgency of the incident, police did not obtain the witness’s contact information but would like to thank her for taking the time to provide this information to police.
Hit and Run
• Sometime on March 29, a hit and run occurred in the boat launch parking lot in the 5700 block of Wharf Avenue, Sechelt. The suspect vehicle caused significant damage to the front side fender of the parked vehicle but the suspect driver did not leave a note for the other driver. Police are reviewing surveillance video. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact RCMP, reference police file 2021-1994.
Found Property
• On March 25, a music-playing device found in the 5500 block of Inlet Avenue, Sechelt, was turned in. Owner may claim within 90 days with detailed description of the item and accessory. Please reference police file 2021-1885.
• On March 29, a cellphone found near Armours Beach, Gibsons, was turned in. Owner may claim within 90 days with detailed description. Please reference police file 2021-1986.
