Coast bears cut winter nap short

As an unusually mild winter mobilizes Olympic organizers into a frenzy of snow-scavenging, the Sunshine Coast is seeing its own mild-winter phenomenon: non-hibernating bears.

Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for the week of Jan. 26 to Feb. 2: Sometime between Jan. 28/29, a vandal threw an object through a window at a business in the 12300 block of Sunshine Coast Highway.

Float remains open

RCMP issue attempted fraud alerts

Sunshine Coast RCMP are alerting the public this week to two incidents of attempted fraud. The first is a common employment fraud known as the secret shopper scam.

Concern raised over detonation

A Langdale resident has expressed concern over the RCMP's handling of a controlled detonation of old blasting caps on Jan. 19 in the field beside Langdale Elementary School.

A former Sunshine Coast resident pled guilty this week to a sexual assault dating back nearly 38 years. Stein Erik Iversen, 70, entered the guilty plea to one count of gross indecency in provincial court in Sechelt on Monday Jan 25.
