Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for the week of Jan. 26 to Feb. 2:

Sometime between Jan. 28/29, a vandal threw an object through a window at a business in the 12300 block of Sunshine Coast Highway. The window was broken, but nothing appears to have been stolen.

A complainant and two witnesses reported a vehicle had backed out of a parking stall in the 800 block of Gibsons Way and hit another vehicle. The driver of the at-fault vehicle did not leave behind any contact information for the damaged vehicle, but the complainant was able to provide a licence plate which turned out to be uninsured. A member located the suspect driver and issued him a violation ticket for no insurance and failing to stop at a collision with an unattended vehicle.

On Jan. 29, a driver reported that there was a large rock in the southbound lane of Highway 101 near Conrad Road, and that the rock was too large for the driver to move. Capilano Highways and RCMP attended and determined that the rock was in fact a pillow. The pillow was removed and disposed of by Capilano Highways.

A passerby reported an abandoned vehicle parked precariously on the side of Sechelt Inlet Road near Heron Road, apparently about to slide down an embankment. When members arrived, they found the registered owner and a friend attempting to pull the vehicle back on the road. The owner smelled strongly of alcohol, and that, coupled with evidence showing the vehicle spun off the road, prompted the member to issue the owner a 24-hour driving suspension. The vehicle was towed.

Sometime between Jan. 30/31, a thief stole a vehicle that had been parked in the 5700 block of Wharf Road. The thief entered the vehicle through an unlocked rear sliding window and used a key that had been left inside the cab. The vehicle was recovered on Sechelt Inlet Road, abandoned, with a broken transmission.

On Feb. 1, police were called to a business in the 5500 block of Sunshine Coast Highway after staff witnessed the suspect pocket several items and leave the business after paying for only one item. Staff were able to detain the suspect until the member arrived on scene. The stolen items were recovered and the file is under investigation.
