The Sunshine Coast Conservation Association is celebrating Oceans Day 2004 with two free informative workshops designed to address the state of the Strait of Georgia.
Christianne Wilhelmson of the Georgia Strait Alliance will give a presentation on how to detoxify your home, with a focus on non-toxic alternatives for use in homes, gardens and businesses. The condition of Georgia Strait and the effects that pollutants and toxic run-off have on fish and shellfish populations will also be part of her discussion.
Dianne Sanford will give a short presentation on the importance of eelgrass beds and discuss a mapping project currently identifying and trying to protect important eelgrass habitats around the Sunshine Coast. Her presentation will be followed by a beach seine, probably at Porpoise Bay.
The workshops will be held Sunday, June 6, noon to 2 p.m., at Capilano College in Sechelt.
Everyone is welcome, especially young people. Come and learn more about the State of the Strait and how you can help eliminate toxic run-off into our fresh and salt waters.
