Web deal in limbo after cameras stop rolling

If you watched the live web cast of the Dragons’ Den on April 3 you saw Canada Hemp Foods get the deal they wanted, but things are still in limbo after the show.

On-line viewers saw Dragon Arlene Dickinson tell Coasters Robert and Dianna Rae of Canada Hemp Foods that their product was “squarely” in Dickinson’s “sweet spot” and that she would give them exactly what they wanted — $150,000 for 25 per cent of their company.

But the Raes have yet to pen a deal after the handshake with Dickinson on the show.

Robert Rae said he wasn’t “entirely sure” what will happen with the deal.

“She did so many deals last season, some have taken longer than expected,” he said.

However the exposure from the Dragons’ Den webcast and the article in Coast Reporter on March 28 contributed to an upswing in sales for Canada Hemp Foods locally and off Coast.

“We’ve seen a marked increase in sales,” Robert said.

With or without a deal he and his sister are still thankful for the Dragons’ Den experience saying they “learned a lot about working with potential investors.”
