The District of Sechelt is supporting an application from the Downtown Sechelt Business Association to have a flyby take place on Canada Day, July 1, executed by the Royal Canadian Air Force.
As part of the logistics in applying for such a demonstration, the association had to have the approval of mayor and council by way of letter, which was submitted at the May 21 council meeting.
Correspondence from the air force detailed the specific approvals it needed before proceeding, such as permission to fly at an altitude of 500 feet. Also needed was a map showing the requested flyby route.
As well, regarding a request for a static helicopter display, the air force requested a Google Earth image of the landing site, which must also meet requirements of the Air Display Organizers Manual, if not landing at an authorized airport. An authorization letter was also requested, if not landing at an authorized airport.
In response, district corporate officer Kerianne Poulsen, wrote,
“The District of Sechelt, BC, is supportive of a flyby by Royal Canadian Air Force Aircraft as low as 500 feet, for the planned Canada Day Parade being held on Cowrie Street in Sechelt, BC, for transit, practice and shows on July 1, 2025 between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m.”
