SDBA to discontinue Night Market

The Sechelt Downtown Business Association (SDBA) has decided to discontinue coordination of the Sechelt Thursday Night Market.

The Sechelt Downtown Business Association (SDBA) has decided to discontinue coordination of the Sechelt Thursday Night Market.

"The decision was based on the marketing consultation done for the SDBA in 2013 that recommended the SDBA discontinue its involvement with the Night Market," said president Katharine Trueman.

Trueman said one of the recommendations of the 2013 marketing consultation was that the SDBA focus its energies and resources on supporting its two major events the year (Canada Day and Christmas), and developing two new events (an October harvest event and a Spring arts event).

"We are confident these events will draw many locals and tourists to an attractive and vibrant downtown Sechelt," she said. "We welcome the ideas and energy of our members to help bring all of these events to fruition.

Thanks to all the people and organizations that participated in and supported the Night Market. During its eight years, it expanded from just a few vendors and entertainers to a much larger market that drew about 500 people each evening. Without your involvement, the market would not have been successful.

"We would love to hear from you with any new, fresh ideas you may have for making Sechelt a vibrant and attractive place to be."
