Pender Harbour Hotel and the Grasshopper Pub are up for sale

The listing includes 4.75 acres and the 18-slip marina

One of Pender Harbour’s local watering holes is up for sale.

As of Sept. 13, the Grasshopper Pub, liquor store and Pender Harbour Hotel, were listed for sale with Lee & Associates Vancouver and Colliers Unique Properties as a turnkey business opportunity.

The properties, at 12671 Sunshine Coast Highway & 5097 Johnstone Road in Madeira Park, include approximately 4.75 acres and a variety of zoning uses. The pub itself can accommodate 309 people, and includes an unfinished area that could expand use. The adjacent marina property below the hotel and pub, includes cleared land, a single family home and 18-slip marina that are described as having “excellent development potential."

The listing boasts “unparalleled views over Pender Harbour.”

An asking price was not included in the listing. Alan Johnson of Colliers told Coast Reporter the property is in the early stage of going onto market.

The current property owners chose not to comment on this story.

The Grasshopper was completely rebuilt after a 2013 electrical fire destroyed the landmark hotel and pub. The previous rendition of the Grasshopper and the hotel was a combination of structures built in the 1940s and '70s. It now features more than 100 solar panels as well as geothermal heating.

More recently, the Grasshopper Pub and restaurant closed for the season just days before Christmas 2022 after people attempted to remove the ATMs, and reopened just before April.
