School District No. 46 has announced their administrative changes for the 2011/12 school year.
The announcement shows changes in principals at Pender Harbour Secondary, Elphinstone Secondary, Madeira Park Elementary, Davis Bay Elementary, Gibsons Elementary and the Sunshine Coast Alternative School.
Mark Heidebrecht moves from Gibsons Elementary to take over the principal's position at Pender Harbour. The position was formerly held by Nancy Brindley, who is on extended medical leave.
Melanie Robinson officially takes over the principalship at Madeira Park Elementary. She has been acting as an interim principal there since March 2011, when former principal Fred Thorsell moved to Pender Harbour Secondary to fill in for Brindley while she was on medical leave.
Robinson moved to the Coast in 2007 after 15 years as an elementary school administrator in the Vancouver School District. After taking some time off from the school system, she has happily stepped up to take on the position locally.
In September, Thorsell will move to fill the principal's position at Elphinstone Secondary, as former principal John Clements is retiring.
Davis Bay Elementary School will see former alternative school principal Sally Thicke take over for Ann Skelcher, who will also be retiring.
The Sunshine Coast Alternative School principal's position will be taken by Carolyn Spence who has been acting as the vice-principal of the alternative school. There will be no vice-principal assignment at the alternative school in the coming school year.
The final vacancy at Gibsons Elementary will be filled by current superintendent Deborah Palmer. She will pass the title of superintendent to Patrick Bocking, who takes over as of Aug. 1.
All other principal positions will stay the same for the upcoming school year.
