Macey Park, Cardinall Hall open

News

The Sunshine Coast Regional District honoured the memories of Shirley Macey and Eric Cardinall, both long-time community activists, at the opening of Shirley Macey Park and Eric Cardinall Hall June 19.

The new park and community hall are located on Chamberlin Road just outside of Gibsons.

Jo Cardinall, Eric's widow, said the establishment of a new park was very important to her husband, who was the regional director for West Howe Sound.

"He would have been thrilled," she said. "It meant so much to him."

The park includes two full-sized sports fields which can be booked through the regional district's parks and recreation department. The hall is constructed with open timber framing. It has a small community use room, full-sized kitchen and two large change rooms with showers.

"I think they tried to come up with something that would please everybody, from a community garden to all sorts of sports fields, lawn bowling, and a playground for little kids. It's a park that definitely will be for everybody," said Jo Cardinall.
