Loblaw Public Relations says Heather’s Your Independent Grocer, located at 5530 Sunshine Coast Hwy. in Sechelt, is taking extra precautions after the store confirmed an employee tested positive for COVID-19.
A notice for the store appeared on Dec. 8 on a company webpage devoted to tracking positive COVID cases.
According to the notice, the staff member tested positive on a “presumptive test” and the last day they worked was Dec. 2.
Loblaw public relations told Coast Reporter that staff “who worked closely with this individual are now at home in self-isolation, monitoring for any symptoms” of the virus.
“We have been working with the local public health team and have taken a number of steps to minimize risk, including increased sanitization protocols and enforcing social distancing practices in the store. The store also arranged for additional cleaning,” they said.
All positive cases are listed on Loblaw’s COVID tracker website within 24 hours of notification: https://www.loblaw.ca/en/covid-19/
Workers at major grocery stores in Metro Vancouver and Fraser Valley have also tested positive for the novel coronavirus, with new confirmed cases announced for staff at Langley and Surrey stores.
Case numbers increased significantly on the Sunshine Coast in November, with 19 new cases. There have been no public exposures reported by Vancouver Coastal Health, including at School District No. 46.
