Between Dec. 12 and 18, the BC Centre for Disease Control reports there were three new cases of COVID-19 on the Sunshine Coast.
Meanwhile, the Howe Sound area reported 125 new cases and Powell River reported two. There were 23 cases in Vancouver Coastal Health missing address information for that time period.
As of Dec. 19, 34 per cent of Coasters ages five to 11 years old had received their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. Of local residents ages 12 and older, 86 per cent had two immunizations against the virus. On the Coast, 65 per cent of seniors 70 and older have received their booster shot.
By age category, the 12-to 17-year-olds and adults ages 18 to 49 are tied for percentage of their first and second doses at 84 and 80 per cent, respectively. At the same time, 90 per cent of people 50 and older have had both doses and 92 per cent have had one.
