Welcome Beach Community Association is hosting the 50th anniversary of Welcome Beach Hall tomorrow (Saturday) at the hall at 8394 Redrooffs Road.

It will be a fun birthday celebration with the life-time members invited. We hope these members will share some memories with us. Everyone else is welcome to help ring in the next 50 years with a dinner, dancing, draws, and, of course, cake. Tickets are available by calling Gina at 604-885-5833. The hall sits on a property donated by David Fullerton in July 1947; the building was constructed in 1958. The property can only be used as a wilderness park with hiking trails and may be used for a Sunshine Coast Regional District (SCRD) water reservoir in the future. The SCRD now maintains the hiking trails. The original hall has been enlarged and a paved parking space created.

The hall has served the community by hosting Brownies, educational groups, cinema showings in the '60s (for a 35 cent admission fee), meetings, weddings, memorials and regular monthly dinner dances. A volunteer board and the general membership manage the hall. It looks after all the events, rentals, maintenance and upkeep. Membership costs only $10 per year and allows for voting at the annual general meeting on June 11. The board hopes to elect some new directors to keep the hall vital and its activities ongoing.
