Throngs of Creekers and a few outsiders attended a lively all-candidates forum at Roberts Creek Community Hall on Oct. 11 to hear the platforms of the five nominees for Area D Sunshine Coast Regional District (SCRD) director.

It was standing room only last Sunday afternoon at Pender Harbour Community Hall, where residents gathered for a town hall and hour-long forum featuring the three candidates running for Area A Sunshine Coast Regional District (SCRD) director.

Suzanne Senger is a taxpayer and eligible voter in the Town of Gibsons. She is also a candidate for Gibsons council.

A new format for last week’s Sechelt and District Chamber of Commerce all-candidates forum allowed the three mayoral candidates to question each other directly on topics of their choosing.

There is a final chance to advance vote this week in Sechelt, Gibsons and the Sunshine Coast Regional District as local governments get ready for general voting day on Oct. 20. The District of Sechelt’s second day of advance voting is Tuesday, Oct.

More than 200 people packed the bleachers at the Elphinstone gym Oct. 9 for the Gibsons Chamber of Commerce all-candidates forum. The setting prompted one mayoral candidate to jokingly promise comfier seating if he was elected.

No one was injured, but a 2007 Ford F150 was completely destroyed when it burst into flames on Highway 101 near Browning Road on Oct. 9. The incident happened around 3:45 p.m.

A $1,000 reward has been offered by a wildlife organization for information leading to a conviction of whoever killed a family of black bears in Roberts Creek.
