Sunshine Coast RCMP report that drivers are still not getting the message about the dangers of driving while impaired. In just two weeks police have served 19 drivers with Immediate Roadside Prohibitions.

Donna McMahon defeated the Sunshine Coast Regional District’s (SCRD) only incumbent candidate on election night, and with the upset comes a complete changeover of rural directors at the board.

Bill Beamish went into the municipal election hoping to sit on Gibsons council, but the unexpected withdrawal of the only mayoral candidate changed Beamish’s plans and the whole dynamic of the campaign.

Voters in Sechelt decided not to keep the change they made in 2014 and opted for a completely different change in Saturday’s municipal election.

Sechelt has a new mayor. Darnelda Siegers clobbered incumbent mayor Bruce Milne Saturday in a landslide win for the two-term Sechelt councillor. Siegers received 2,513 votes (60.4 per cent) compared to 1,111 for Milne (26.

While the new crop of School District No. 46 (SD46) trustees won’t be finalized until after the Oct. 20 civic elections, one has already taken his seat at the table. Nicholas Davis was sworn in as the district’s sixth student trustee at an Oct.

As the local government election campaign entered the home stretch, third-party sponsors have come forward in Gibsons and Sechelt.
