The Waldorf Ballet Nutcracker runs Dec. 9 to 11 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the Raven’s Cry Theatre. Tickets are available at waldorfballet.com. The Sunshine Coast Youth Dance Association version starts at 7 p.m. on Dec. 14 through 19, with 2 p.m. matinee performances on Dec. 17, 18 and 19. They’re Going Places features prolific comedians Abbas Wahab, Moe Ismail, and Jesse Singh. The threesome began their tour on Nov. 4 in St John’s, Newfoundland and plan to visit more than a dozen Canadian cities over the next three months. 

For the first time on the Coast, voices will be accompanied by a consort of viols for the service. These six-stringed, fretted instruments were widespread during the Renaissance period but faded when their intimate sound was overshadowed by the growing violin family.
