If you turn off the Sunshine Coast Highway near Middlepoint and wind your way down a driveway into the forest, past a garden patch, over a bridge and past a rustic cottage, you will find a designer home, nestled in trees but with a gorgeous south-west view to the ocean and the Vancouver Island mountains far beyond. It’s the dream home of Koen Drugmand and the late Din Ruttelynck, both European-trained architects and both with a love of the natural wildness of the Coast.

Supporters of the Driftwood Theatre School apparated outside the Raven’s Cry Theatre in Sechelt last week to promote a new season of acting classes offered by the non-profit organization.

An enticing aroma of cedar permeates the air as carver Derek Georgeson enters his gallery workspace in ch’atlich (Sechelt). Past the double doors bearing a metal blackfish design, which he created digitally and had fabricated elsewhere, he holds up his latest work-in-progress: a red cedar wall panel with a stylized eagle facing a bear.

Under the coordination of library staffer Nancy Relova, the Gibsons Public Library welcomed dozens of community members to its third-annual Mid-Autumn Festival on Saturday, Sept. 7.
