Series of paintings a journey from darkness to light, says artist Lisa Hau

The Sunshine Coast Film Society is planning to screen the Oscar-nominated film Perfect Days on Monday, Oct. 7 at 7:30 p.m. at the Heritage Playhouse in Gibsons, and on Thursday, Oct. 10 at 2 p.m. at the Ravens Cry Theatre in Sechelt.

The inaugural Sunshine Coast exhibition of an artist from Vancouver Island’s Mill Bay reveals new ways of seeing the deep-rooted sentinels that line both sides of the Salish Sea.

Four community awards presented annually by the Sunshine Coast Arts Council were announced on Sept. 29 during a ceremony in Sechelt. 

Even so, one among them stands apart in its dazzling diversity. The Sechelt Arts Festival was begun in 2004 as a summer weekend of outdoor concerts in Hackett Park. Seven years later, in an attempt to attract visitors during the shoulder season, the festival was redesigned as a month-long happening during the cool days of mid-autumn.

An improvised comedy community is taking shape on the Sunshine Coast as a result of a spontaneous offer by a longtime performer and instructor.

A B.C.-born musician who headlined last year’s season of the Coast Recital Society earned the top prize last weekend in one of the world’s top piano competitions.

The Sunshine Coast Film Society will screen the award-winning Canadian film Brother at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 30 at the Gibsons Heritage Playhouse and 2 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 3 at the Raven’s Cry Theatre in Sechelt.  

The Sunshine Coast’s first Roper Romp took place last week, part of a growing trend since 2013 in cities across the U.S. and Canada.
