Sunshine Coast Festival of the Written Arts

The Sunshine Coast Festival of the Written Arts held an opening reception at the Seaside Centre Aug. 15. Authors and invited guests were welcomed with appetizers and wine, and greeted by MP Pamela Goldsmith-Jones and Sechelt Mayor Darnelda Siegers.

The Sunshine Coast is home to professional puppeteer Kris Fleerackers, and he will be performing a traditional puppet show this Saturday, Aug. 24, at the Gibsons Public Art Gallery.

It’s one of the biggest weekends on the Sunshine Coast arts calendar, rivalled only by the Art Crawl and the Sechelt Arts Festival in October.

Neil Diamond tribute artist Bobby Bruce brought his Nearly Neil show, along with his backup group The Solitary Band, to Winegarden Park in Gibsons Sunday, Aug. 10, drawing a crowd of hundreds who braved threatening skies and danced the evening away.

The 2019 Hackett Park Arts and Crafts Fair takes place Saturday, Aug. 17, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, Aug. 18, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This juried fair offers the best works of B.C. artisans who look forward to the fair every year.
