When you look at an artwork and can’t be sure if it’s a painting or a photograph, then on closer examination realize it is in fact a painting, you can marvel at both the artist’s skill and appreciate the playful trickery.

In anticipation of the Gibsons Shorelight Lantern Festival at Winegarden Park on July 27, the Town of Gibsons and local businesses are sponsoring a free, all-ages, lantern-making workshop on Saturday, July 20 between 1 and 5 p.m. at Sunnycrest Mall.

Amid the rolling, wooded acreages north of the highway in Roberts Creek, members of the public will soon be able to witness an unlikely slice of 19th-century British industry, clanking away in a workshop just off Hanbury Road.

Evolution of a Series

Gibsons-based Loretta Todd is among a group of Indigenous filmmakers being introduced to a new and wider audience, thanks to a joint project between the National Film Board (NFB) and B.C.’s Knowledge Network.
