The month-long Sunshine Coast Festival of the Performing Arts topped off its 46th season with a Highlights Concert on Sunday, May 12, at the Heritage Playhouse in Gibsons.

Members of the Sunshine Coast Quilters’ Guild showed their stuff May 11 and 12, packing the floor of the arena at Gibsons Community Centre with quilts of all shapes, colours and sizes. More than 235 quilts, all by local crafters, were on display.

Artist Nancy Hugh has never been one to take a conventional approach. Born and raised in Hawaii, Hugh spent many summers at her family cottage on the shore of Halfmoon Bay on the Sunshine Coast, where she now lives full time.

May’s documentary film at the Sunshine Coast Arts Centre is Meet Beau Dick: Maker of Monsters, an intimate look into the life of Alert Bay native carver Benjamin Kerry Dick, whose influential work was seen as traditional and yet contemporary.

You’ll get twice the bang for your buck at Sunshine Coast singer/songwriter Deanna Knight’s upcoming show at St. Bartholomew’s Church in Gibsons.

If, for some reason, you happened to turn the chairs upside down in the kitchen of Leif Kristian Freed’s childhood home in Vasa, Finland, you’d discover the artist’s very early abstracts.

Anna Lumiere and Graham Ord, you could say, are up to their ears.

The Sunshine Coast Festival of the Performing Arts caps off its 46th year with its annual Highlights Concert at the Heritage Playhouse in Gibsons, Sunday, May 12 at 2 p.m.

The annual High Tea event will be held on Saturday, May 25, 1 to 3 p.m., at Calvary Baptist Church in Gibsons, 711 Park Rd. This year promises to be special fun with comedian, singer-songwriter, and inspirational speaker, Wendy Farha.
