From Sorrento to Salt Spring Island, garlic farmers from all over B.C. gravitated to Lions Park near Pender Harbour last weekend to enjoy music, crafts and gourmet events in honour of the so-called stinking rose, garlic.

The Sunshine Coast Botanical Garden Society invites the whole community to its third annual Harvest Festival on Aug. 27. The event, slated for next Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. features loads of family fun, great food, and toe-tapping music.

The Pender Harbour Lions Club invites the community to celebrate all things garlic at its second annual Garlic Festival this weekend. The festival runs on Saturday, Aug. 20 from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday, Aug. 21 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

There will be fun for all ages next weekend as the Lagoon Society hosts its third annual Sunshine Coast BioBlitz and Family Fun Days. Community members of all ages are warmly invited to join in the festivities at the Iris Griffith Centre from 9 a.m.

The final chapter of the David Thompson Brigades has come to a close.
