Friday Markets in Madeira Gardens will continue through September each Friday 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Come shop a variety of vendors and enjoy treats from Tony’s Triple B’s. This is the big weekend throughout B.C. to raise funds for animals.

The Halfmoon Bay branch of the Sunshine Coast Healthcare Auxiliary is holding its next meeting on Monday, Sept. 9 at 9:45 a.m. at Coopers Green Hall. All guests and new members are welcome.

It’s that time of year again. The BC Thanksgiving Food Drive for the four Sunshine Coast food banks will be held from Sept. 13 to 21. There are currently 135 volunteers signed up for the event, but more are needed, said organizer Burns Matkin.

Two- and four-legged friends are invited to join the BC SPCA for its annual Paws for a Cause event, at Hackett Park in Sechelt on Sunday, Sept. 8. Walk registration opens at noon and the walk starts at 2:30 p.m.

About 200 people attended a Latin Party in lower Gibsons on Saturday, Aug. 17. It was put on by Olga’s Hair Stories with more than a dozen business sponsors.

History comes alive in Fort Erie, Ontario – along with a few ghosts of battles long ago. The reconstructed Old Fort Erie site on Dominion Road is open to the touring public.
