Ten wrestlers from Elphinstone and three wrestlers from Chatelech headed over to Notre Dame Regional Secondary School in Vancouver to determine which wrestlers would move forward to represent the Vancouver Sea to Sky Zone, the biggest zone in the province.
Coen Enthoven represented Chatelech well in his first year. He was in a massive bracket with over 20 wrestlers. He fought in six amazing matches. His finish will hopefully give him a spot at provincials .
Elphinstone had nine qualify for provincials. Eight came home with medals. Alice Clements was recognized and awarded the trophy as the most outstanding female wrestler in the zone. With five girls, all finishing top three, Elphinstone won the zone banner for the second straight year.
Alanna Krinapai won bronze
Lia Trent won silver
Maddy Van Der Stelt won silver
Sienna Treliving won gold
Alice Clements won gold
Hayden Van der Stelt won gold
Dylan Drope won gold
Ethan Sullivan won gold
Ethan, Alice and Dylan all had perfect shutouts not allowing a single point scored. Hayden only had two points scored. The final match of the night was a slobber knocker, seeing Sienna emerge victorious. Coaches Mike Rines and Eric Sullivan couldn’t be more proud of all their athletes. They are excited to see how provincials will play out in two weeks.
Coast athletes worked last weekend with Danielle Lappage, former Olympian and world champion. They hope to perfect their technique before provincials.
