Next Friday, June 7, from 3 to 5 p.m. students from Chatelech Secondary School's creative writing class will be reading and presenting some of their work to the public.

This young writers' festival will be held at the Rockwood Pavilion, the same venue as the annual Sunshine Coast Festival of the Written Arts. Admission is free, but donations towards the writing program will be accepted.

The students have been writing in and out of class since February, some working on novels, others on philosophical musings, short stories and/or poetry. Each student will introduce his or her work, read for about five minutes and then answer a couple of questions from the audience. The pieces range in style and tone: some are hilariously irreverent, others gently evocative and still others shockingly direct.

The students want to share their work with a larger audience and hope this event will give them that opportunity.
