Enjoy a day visiting seven fascinating gardens of artists and their partners from Davis Bay to Gibsons next Sunday, June 8, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. hosted by the Sunshine Coast Botanical Garden.

Each garden has evidence of joy and the expression of genius loci, or spirit of place. The Artists in their Gardens Tour is an enchanting way to spend a summer day with friends gadding from one garden to the next, finding inspiration and admiring the imaginative spark of these very fine gardeners.

Tickets are $20 for Society members and $25 for non-members, available from local garden centres, Sechelt Visitor Centre and the Botanical Garden. The garden addresses and a map are printed on the ticket. Carpools are recommended as street parking is limited. Sturdy footwear is advised; some gardens are steep or have uneven footing.

Original paintings, sculptures, carvings or pottery will be displayed and available for sale at the gardens. You’ll visit some highly productive vegetable patches, some cleverly terraced hillsides, some sunny spots bursting with colour and some mysterious corners. And you’ll delight in the one-of-a-kind embellishments.

This eleventh annual tour of private gardens is a summer fundraiser for the Botanical Garden.

The Garden is at 5941 Mason Road in West Sechelt, open for visitors Friday to Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Visit the rainforest grove, the picnic and play area or the vegetable patch. Along the perimeter path you’ll find ponds and trees, grassy meadows and the Welch rainforest platform overlooking a mossy, ferny ravine. Due to the wildlife nesting habitat, please leave pets at home.
