Studio owner Ray Fulber invites youth ages 10 to 17 to a workshop on June 15 at Strait Sound Studio in Roberts Creek where students will learn how a high-end recording studio produces a CD. He will also run a band camp in the first week of July for teens ages 13 to 18 who play an instrument or who are already part of a band. A Grammy winning artist will share her success story with the students. Local sculptor Don Watson will offer a stone-sculpting workshop to beginners and intermediates ages 10 to 16 on Sunday, June 16 at Gibsons Rock'N Art Gallery (info at www.rocknartgallery.blogspot.ca).

Rex Fenton, 2011 national champion in beach volleyball, is coming to the Coast to teach a high-performance beach volleyball camp from July 8 to 10 at the Rotary courts in Sechelt. Athletes can cool off with water games during breaks at Trail Bay Wharf.

A small group of lucky teens ages 10 to 16 will embark on an adventure to Tofino from Aug. 11 to 14 where Catherine Bruhwiler will treat them to a combo of surf and stand-up paddle boarding. The Spirit of Excellence group will stay at Mackenzie Beach Resort with campsite and cabins. Parents for students under 14 may be asked to travel with their child. Hikes, swimming and beach volleyball can also be enjoyed during this camp.

Youth are invited to join an Outrigger Canoe Camp off Gibsons Marina from Aug. 19 to 23 with Ron Dickinson and special guest coaches such as Mike Billy(http://indigenousreporting.com/a-canoe-family-called-billy/).

Participants will learn about paddling technique, play beach games and explore local islands and wildlife. Burnaby's canoe club Lotus is planning to bring their junior team to the Sunshine Coast for a friendly race weekend on Aug. 31. Local youth are currently enjoying a six-week introduction to outrigger canoeing in partnership with Gibsons Paddle Club.

Spirit of Excellence plans a second outdoor competition weekend for kids in partnership with YMCA Camp Elphinstone for the end of September. The mini mudder and Y-Games in February were a big hit.
