Sechelt community supports Coast chapter

For the third year in a row, the Sunshine Coast KidSport Chapter held a free barbecue at Trail Bay Home Hardware last week.

For the third year in a row, the Sunshine Coast KidSport Chapter held a free barbecue at Trail Bay Home Hardware last week.

Owner Dave Lamb, a KidSport supporter for many years, donated a Monarch barbecue and a swing patio set to be raffled, while Claytons Heritage Market donated hot dog buns and wieners and McDonalds in Sechelt donated juice and condiments.

KidSport members Jim Gray and Carol Duff, along with volunteer Paula Kelley, served several hundred people. Donations from hot dogs raised $4,68.61 -an amount that will help up to three children register in a B.C. recognized sport of their choice. KidSport thanks Lamb for hosting the event, which has been held annually for the past three years.

The Sechelt event was a great opportunity for KidSport members to meet the community and let them know how KidSport helps children participate in sports on the Sunshine Coast.

Since the summer of 2009, KidSport has helped 499 children on the Coast register in a sport.

The KidSport Chapter was also presented with two other donations that day. Rent-it-Canada donated $500 and the Sechelt Wrecks Hockey Club also donated $500. Monies raised in the community and donations received in the community go directly to support youth in sport.
