The Sunshine Coast Electric Vehicle Association (SCEVA) had a booth at Fully Charged LIVE Canada in the Vancouver Convention Centre last weekend, the first show of its kind in North America. More than 20,000 people were expected to view at least 200 exhibits of never-before-seen electric cars, trucks and buses, home energy solutions, mobility devices and more.

And attendees could join world class dignitaries including Robert Llewellyn and Sandy Munro to hear more about emerging ideas and solutions. SCEVA founders were front and centre – with John Henderson speaking on three panels and Dennis Olson on one.

The organizers invited SCEVA to participate because of the Coast’s long history of embracing EVs and sustainable energy practices – and, in recognition of the Coast having amongst the highest adoption rate per capita for EVs, in North America.

SCEVA’s volunteers and displays provided a history of the Association’s activities dating back to 2010 as well as displaying Buddy & Barb’s famous Chevy Bolt – the first EV to travel across Canada, and back, in 2017, at a cost of only $160 for electricity.

Sunshine Coast Tourism joined the booth to showcase the amazing Sunshine Coast to the crowds including proudly showing that we welcome EV visitors with numerous chargers located throughout our coastal communities.

It’s a busy month for SCEVA, culminating in the 8th Annual Sechelt Electric Vehicle Festival  Saturday, Sept 16.  Everyone is welcome to join them at Cowrie and Ocean Avenue (the field beside the Farmers Market) between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. to view many models of EVs on display by member hosts and sponsors.  And this year, attend the new Speed Speakers Series. Hear five-minute segments about things like affordability, getting work with your EV, multi unit charging and myth busting. And bring the kids to the bouncy castle!
