For the third year in a row, Sunshine Coast Credit Union and MarketPlace IGA are hosting a movie event!

Mark your calendars for this Thursday, Aug. 15, to attend a free community event at Hackett Park to raise money for Sunshine Coast KidSport chapter.

Last year, approximately 1,500 people attended the Movie in the Park, a free outdoor family movie night to Coast residents, and generously donated $6,600 to directly support Sunshine Coast KidSport.

The Great Outdoor Movie Event features a three-storey inflatable screen on which the audience will view the movie The Croods.

Guests are invited to come early and enjoy an evening of fun for all ages. Admission is free and food bank donations will be accepted at the KidSport tent. The evening offers a barbecue concession manned by the Rotary Club of the Sunshine Coast - Sechelt, popcorn, KidsZone activities include bouncy castles, face painting and kids' games.

Raffle tickets are on sale now at any Sunshine Coast Credit Union location, and prizes will be drawn prior to the movie. All prizes have been donated and include a $500 SCCU savings account, $500 IGA gift card, two nights hotel stay in Whistler, merchant prize packs, a kids' quilt by Sunshine Coast quilters, a B.C. Lions autographed football, and more!

The KidsZone opens at 5 p.m. with children's activities by donation to KidSport. The concession offers hot dogs, burgers, veggie burgers, pop, water, chips, popcorn, candy bags, freezies and more. During the evening, 50/50 raffles will be held and there will be a special welcome by the Xwamtsut Cultural Group of Sechelt Indian Band.

"Partnering once again with Sunshine Coast Credit Union and MarketPlace IGA to support the youth in our community just made sense," said KidSport co-chair DianeWagner. "These organizations are all about giving back to their communities and this event will help many children on our Coast to be able to take part in a sport of their choice. These are kids who wouldn't have had the opportunity to participate, so we are hoping we get a huge turnout again this year."
