Mindil Beach and Wilderness Crew host fundraiser

Daniel Kingsbury Music for Youth Endowment

A sell-out crowd came to the Roberts Creek Hall on Oct. 10 to support the Daniel Kingsbury Music for Youth Endowment fundraiser, hosted by Mindil Beach and Wilderness Crew, popular bands with their roots on the Coast.

Long-time fans of both bands filled the hall to pay tribute to Kingsbury by raising funds to expand the endowment he and Mindil Beach band member Matt Posnikoff initiated in 2005 as Grade 12 students at Chatelech Secondary. The endowment, held by the Sunshine Coast Community Foundation, provides grants to young musicians needing support for their musical endeavours.

The bands combined their talents and played together for many numbers, presenting songs from each band and songs written by Kingsbury. They rocked the hall with their blend of hip hop, rock and reggae, and created a special show that brought Kingsbury’s friends together to honour his legacy.

Ticket sales and a silent auction raised $5,450, and more funds came in from sales of DK feather T-shirts provided by Molly’s Lane shop, The Losa.

Mindil Beach is in the final stage of the Peak Performance Project competition and fans can vote for them on Facebook by Friday, Oct. 23.
