The Inside Outside Project will be showcased at Sunnycrest Mall on March 19 and 20.

Deer Crossing The Art Farm, a local community-engaged arts organization, has been working with individuals in our community who have experienced homelessness or housing insecurity on a project called “The Inside Outside Project.” On March 19 and 20, they will be hosting an open house in their pop-up studio at Sunnycrest Mall, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day to showcase this project. The open house is an opportunity for the community to see homelessness through a different lens, through art, through storytelling, and through the personal experiences of many people living in our community.

Over the past month, they have been exploring questions like “What does homeless mean to you?”, “Where does the conversation (of homelessness) start?”, “What would you take with you?” and “What makes you feel at home?” They have held weekly workshops and collected submissions from an installation set up outside the workshop space at Sunnycrest Mall.

Because there are many false stereotypes and misconceptions about people who are homeless, the Inside Outside Project hopes to offer a new perspective and build on the community’s capacity to embrace the changes required to address the housing crisis.

This project was funded by the Town of Gibsons through the UBCM “Strengthening Communities” grant. Learn more at www.deercrossingtheartfarm.org/inside-outside-open-house
