The 11th annual Pender Harbour Blues Festival is this weekend June 6 to 8.

The Pender Harbour Legion‘s annual garage sale is this Saturday morning, June 7. Doors open at 10 a.m. Donations may be dropped off Friday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. This includes saleable items that can be carried. Clothing donations go to The Bargain Barn.

This Monday, June 9 at 10 a.m. at the School of Music, the Pender Harbour Garden Club presents Burns Matkin from Halfmoon Bay — owner/operator of Proteus Tree service, a member of the International Society of Arborists and an advisory council member for the Sechelt Community Forest.
His presentation “diversity and trees in suburban settings” will be accompanied by a visual presentation. Following the presentation there will be refreshments and a plant exchange. This event is free for club members and open to the public by voluntary donation.
The Pender Harbour Community Club has a new activity — chess in the harbour —happening each Wednesday at the hall starting June 11 from 3 to 5 p.m. This is a free event with donations appreciated.
Chess champions from Madeira Park Elementary School will be on hand to challenge anyone to a match. Learn the game or improve your skill level. Everyone is welcome.
On Thursday, June 12, Harbourside Friendships welcomes local writer Teresa Kishkan to there get together at 10:30 a.m. at the Community Hall. Kishkan will speak about her successful writing career. Tickets for Murder At The Reach, a dinner theatre event presented by Driftwood Players and Comfort Food Catering June 14 at the Community Hall, are now on sale for $40.

The Rotary Club of Pender Harbour is hosting a great wine tasting event also on June 14 at the Pender Harbour Golf Club. Enjoy wines from Spain and tapas prepared by the Back Nine Bistro. There will be a wine auction and proceeds will go towards local youth projects. Tickets are $75, available at SC Credit Union and Madeira Park veterinary hospital.
Next Saturday, June 14 is also the second annual Candlelight Tribute to honour those who have served and are at rest in our local cemeteries. A candle and a cross will be placed at each gravesite. Meet at the Legion at 11 a.m. and board the bus to the sites.
Come out to the Golf Club on Sunday, June 15 to celebrate Father’s day and the club’s 28th anniversary and the grand opening of Back Nine Bistro. This special day is a fundraiser for Pender Harbour Health Centre. Activities run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
