Also, options for late-season shoppers and a message from xRCCA
roberts creek-COLUMN

Greetings Creekers! This is a Roberts Creek column and I try to focus on happening within our boundaries, which means there are many music and art events outside of the Creek that go unmentioned here. So, I encourage you to sign up for the Coast Cultural Alliance’s free newsletter with events up and down the Coast. Subscribe at coastculture.com.

The past three weeks I have been mentioning local businesses and artists to support through your holiday shopping and I forgot an important place: the Wednesday Market at the Hall. You can buy little bunches of interesting winter greens, eggs, and great baking. There is Christie’s unusual handmade soap and Stephanie is selling her inexpensive, beautifully made cotton aprons, bags and rag rugs. There is fudge, homemade jams and other things to check out. Perogies Galore is in the kitchen and you can take some perogies home for dinner or enjoy soup for lunch on the spot from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Market runs 1:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Staying on the holiday theme here are some coming events near you.

Tonight, it’s the Heart of the Creek Sip & Shop. From 6 to 8 p.m., shops will be offering in-store specials as well as snacks and beverages, so wander with a canape and drink in your hand, chat and shop. What could be more civilized?

Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., it’s the Last Chance Christmas market at the Hall. So, if those other markets were too early for you, some of those same crafts people can be found here.

On Friday, Dec. 15, Daniel Wesley will be putting on a full band show at the Hall with proceeds going to the food bank. It’s family event so bring your kids for a fun night out to support a good cause. Doors open at 6 p.m. Show at 7 p.m. Tickets at Eventbrite.

On Dec. 16, Simon Haiduck studios will present Metta Grove, a visionary art concert and Artisan Market. I know what a market is but not sure about a visionary art concert. However, Simon’s art is colourful, spiritual and amazing so I think this will be an interesting event. The market is from 1 to 5 p.m. and the concert is from 7:30 to 9:45 p.m.

The xRCCA has two big Hall events coming up.

First, it’s the Community Potluck Christmas Dinner on Dec. 25. Everyone is welcome! Turkey, gravy and potatoes are provided and you are invited to bring potluck side dishes and desserts if you are able. The Hall will be magical and there will activities before and after dinner. The door opens at 3 p.m. and dinner is at 5 p.m. Please RSVP if you can so we know how many to cook for but don’t let that deter you. I am telling you about this now because it can’t happen without volunteers and signing up now would be helpful: volunteersignup.org/9JDK

Then its New Years! There is a Midnight Magic event with popular DJs little d and Buzy B. Come out for an evening of non-stop funky beats, dazzling lights and energy to take you into the New Year. There will be a selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages and a sparkly toast at midnight. Get tickets now while you can. This will be a sell-out event.

And finally, I have been asked to include the following message to families from the xRCCA:

We are recognizing a need for family programming and have been trying our hand at different events. Like most new things, there is a learning curve and that is true with our recent light show series, particularly the recent Taylor Swift show. We acknowledge the potential for it to have been amazing but the result was not what we hoped for. We appreciate the amazing support from the community and never want to let you down. We are working to be better and hope that in knowing this, you’ll continue to be part of our growth. We are planning a fun event for Family Day that we hope you will attend. We can always be reached at [email protected] with suggestions, comments and interests.

Have a great week everyone. Stay dry, write to me! [email protected]
