This Friday, Jan. 20, at 3:30 p.m., the Sunshine Coast Literary Coalition presents a free shadow puppet show for all young children called The Whale’s Back, The Journey of a Mother Gray Whale and her Calf. Bring a blanket and wear your pajamas.
This Saturday, Jan. 21, the Sunshine Coast Jazz Society presents their annual fundraising dance with Five Alarm Funk. The nine-person band has five acclaimed albums and has burned up stages across the country on four national tours. The Library would like to invite new members. Membership is free and books can be taken out for three weeks at a time. The folks at the Library buy the latest books every month; for example, this month look for Frantumaglia by Elena Ferrante, The German Girl by A. Correa, and Do Not Say We Have Nothing by Madeleine Thien.
A roaming open mic spoken word event with musical jam interludes and comedy improv is hosted by the Art Barn and talented friends, happening this Thursday, Jan. 26 at 9 p.m. at the Roberts Creek Legion. Vintage debonnaire wit and dress are highly encouraged.
The Gibsons and District Public Library is looking for a trustee to fill a two-year vacant term on the Library Board. They are hoping for someone who lives in the catchment area outside of Gibsons (areas D, E or F). They will hold their AGM on March 11 at 10 a.m. Details of eligibility and responsibilities can be obtained at the Gibsons Library by picking up a nominations package.
