Town of Gibsons has officially adopted a zoning amendment bylaw, clearing the way for arcades to operate legally within the municipality.
The amendment updates the definition of “Service Commercial Use” to include arcades and removes outdated restrictions on game machines from several zoning sections.
The bylaw, which amends the original 2007 zoning regulations, also clarifies that gambling-related game machines — specifically, more than three per location — remain prohibited in all zones.
During the brief council discussion, members acknowledged the Ministry of Transportation’s timely approval.
The motion to adopt the bylaw received unanimous support.
This move marks a shift in Gibsons’ approach to entertainment and commercial zoning, potentially opening the door to new business ventures and community spaces.
