The Sechelt Seniors Centre was rocking on Saturday night, April 18 to tunes from Playback in a fundraising effort for Flair on the Coast.
Coasters Jean Pate and Carol Bowman started this new non-profit two-hour workshop six months ago for women going through cancer treatment, in remission or affected by cancer. The workshop includes guest speakers, the loan of wigs, hair alternative and cosmetic application ideas, skin and nail care. Flair on the Coast is still relatively unknown, but the fundraising event was certainly a successful way to get the word out to the community.
“What a community! I have to say that I have never lived in a place where people have such spirit, giving their time and resources for so many worthy causes along this beautiful Sunshine Coast,” Pate said. “With help from our husbands and many wonderful friends, everyone pitched in to make our fundraiser such a success. Playback supplied us with ‘60s and ‘70s classic rock hits that kept everyone wanting more. LandSea Camp Services donated the delicious food for the cold buffet. Special friends baked the lovely treats to go with the coffee that was donated to us from Tim Hortons.
“All those who attended, and also many who were not able to come, were so generous. Near the end of the evening, Carol and I were overwhelmed when Stewart Spencer, manager of Scotia Bank, presented us with a cheque in the amount of $3,000. Thank you all so much.”
