Duane Sept will take you on a journey into weird, wild, wonderful Australia through his presentation at the Sunshine Coast Natural History Society meeting on Friday, Oct. 4.
The first fall meeting of the society takes place at 7:30 p.m. at the Sunshine Coast Arts Centre in Sechelt. Refreshments will be served and new members are always welcomed.
Sept travelled to Australia in 1982 and 2010. A number of different habitats were visited that involved dry deserts, lush tropical rain forests and striking beaches. He will describe his sightings and show pictures of the wide diversity of wildlife and scenery encountered.
Sept was born and raised in Alberta and obtained a BSc in zoology at the University of Alberta. He moved to Haida Gwaii in 1991 and then to Halfmoon Bay in 1994, where he now lives with his wife.
He has worked on a number of North American wildlife species ranging from wrens to wolves. He also has become a well-known and accomplished photographer and writer. He continues to publish illustrated natural history guidebooks, including The Beachcomber's Guide to Seashore Life in the Pacific Northwest, Tropical Butterflies of the World, Common Wildflowers of British Columbia and Common Mushrooms of the Northwest.
He continues to travel and photograph nature in its innumerable settings.
