In this column, over the past eight years, I have focused almost exclusively on individual mental health.

Around the northern hemisphere, one of humanity’s timeless archetypes is the observation of the twice-yearly migration of the wild geese. On the Sunshine Coast, the geese fly northwards in April and southwards in October.

Welcome to my very first weekly musings as community columnist for what we like to call the Gumboot Nation, a place to let the Coast know what we are up to here in the Creek.

Pender Harbour Music Society’s Coffee House – this Friday, Oct. 11 – features wonderful local performers, Long Way Home, Baili Clarke band, James Millar, and Ashley Hautala. Doors open at 7 p.m.; music at 7:30 p.m.

Halfmoon Bay Chatelech Community School Association will be holding their AGM in the library at Halfmoon Bay Community School, 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 28. Pickleball runs Mondays and Wednesdays 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

More than 100 community members, staff and volunteers celebrated the Sept. 28 grand opening of Sunshine Coast Community Services Society’s (SCCSS) The Family Place, in Sechelt. The grand opening celebrated the newly renovated space at 5520 Trail Ave.

Sunshine Coast Community Services (SCCS) is offering a new initiative this month – iConnect Ideas. The program is a mini-series of informal dialogue sessions around the topic of intergenerational connection.

In traveling the Holy Land with our daughter years ago, cruise ship excursions introduced us to Israel. Those treasured memories inspire our recent return aboard the elegant Viking Star and our visit to Jerusalem.

A total of $14,255 was raised for specialty staging and LED lights at Gibsons Heritage Playhouse by the Gibsons Tim Hortons Smile Cookie campaign.
