Can you believe it’s July already? Where did the last six months go? 2020 began with the hope of an amazing year but our world certainly changed in March.

It took only two weeks for Hopkins Landing resident Kara McDonnell to climb Mount Everest, and she did it a stone’s throw from her backyard. “I didn’t know what I was getting into when I joined,” said McDonnell of her feat.

After cancelling all April, May and June tours, the Gibsons Historical Walking Tour will commence its sixth season on Saturday, July 4.

A $5,000 grant from the Sunshine Coast Community Foundation will be used to cover operations at the Gibsons Landing Heritage Playhouse (GLHP). The money comes from the foundation’s COVID-19 Emergency Relief Fund.

We have officially made it into summer, as of 2:43 p.m. Sechelt time, June 20.

Happy Summer Solstice! Summer officially began on Saturday, June 20 although the weather was slightly less summerlike. We still remain in Stage 1 water restrictions, which is wonderful for this time of year.

I like living in a “ferry-dependent community.” It gives us this insulated quality. I like that Lower Mainlanders can’t wrap their heads around the idea that we need a boat to get here but we are not an island.
