What is most important issue facing the school community? How would you address it?

Unfilled positions, housing, poverty, and aftermath of COVID. I made a speech to the SSFC June 7 to request inflationary pressures relevant to district (20% rather than 6%) = Provincial Advocacy. Food in schools, support local housing initiatives.

How are you currently involved with education in your community?

Indigenous Advisory Circle, Equity Scan Steering Committee, Chair: Operations, Ad-hoc Anti Racism, & Closed Board Meetings; Past: DPAC, RC PAC, BCSTA, BCPSEA. Current: Kinnikinnik PAC, Chatelech PAC, Vice-Chair, Risk Assessment

Who needs to be involved in school board discussions and decisions?

Students, staff, caregivers/parents, community. Through strategic planning reaching out to stakeholders ie: Community schools, shíshálh Nation, libraries, health etc. Provincial ministerial requirements.

What do you see as the role of the school board?

Financial oversight of budget, direct report with superintendent, and strategic planning. Remaining accessible to the community. Advocate to relevant ministries. Celebrate education in the press.

What do you wish we'd asked you?

What are SD46 successes? We are proud to have our 10th student Trustee, leading the way with student voice. We are leaders in environmental initiatives and leaders in early childhood.
