Oct. 1 saw the Sunshine Coast Regional District end water user conservation regulations on it’s Chapman, Egmont, Cove Cay, North and South Pender Harbour, Langdale, Soames Point, Granthams Landing and and Eastbourne water systems.

The August long weekend saw between 16.5 million and 18.5 million litres of water per day used out of the Chapman system, according to Sunshine Coast Regional District (SCRD) communications. 

The event is slated to start at 6:30 p.m. and will be jointly hosted by the SCRD and Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH). 

The committee also gave it’s OK for mock billing for the North and South Pender Harbour water services in 2025 and in 2026 for the regional water service.

Flows from Gray Creek, which at points in past years have contributed 10 to 15 per cent of Chapman system water, not online, as Vancouver Coastal Health recently introduced a requirement that a water quality advisory be issued before the SCRD puts that creek’s supply into use.

SCRD committee recommended further staff analysis, with a report provided on approaches to Board before the end of 2024, despite town Chief Administrative Officer Emanuel Machado’s statement that the adjustments “could be implemented in eight to 12 months”.

By paying residents to give up their lawns, Southern Nevada, including the City of Las Vegas, has so far replaced more than 22 million, square feet of grass.

At Stage 2, lawn watering is prohibited.
