Three Sunshine Coast Skating Club members attended the first-of-the-season BC/YT Section Summer Skate Competition at the Burnaby 8 Rinks arenas this last weekend.

These three skaters are from the club’s Competitive team, which competes amongst the best provincial/national team members in the province.

The Summer Skate competition draws skaters from as far away as top training centres in Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta, especially in the competitive levels.

Cooper Jones and John Mailey skated with strength, power, and motivation and achieved some great scores considering the high levels in their events. Lucy Watson rose to the occasion and displayed her strong technical skills, backed up with an exciting, high-energy skating performance.

The club is extremely proud of these skaters who have chosen to represent the Sunshine Coast at these competitive skating levels. Their next competition will take place in Chilliwack, Oct. 18 to 20 (Autumn Leaves), which will be a stepping stone toward the provincial level BC/YT Section competition held in Kelowna, Nov. 7 to 10.

Skaters who take the top four overall places at the Section (Pre-Novice levels and up) competition may have a chance to move on toward the Skate Canada National Challenge competition (all of Canada) in December.
