Skater of the month

Skater of the month for February is Sophia McGarry. Sophia is 13 years old and is in Grade 8 at Chatelech Secondary School. Sophia attended her first competition with the club, which was the Regional Winterskate held in Richmond Feb. 1 to 3. She claimed Gold in her Star 1 event. Professional coaches Lesleigh Farr and Daryl Austman said, “Sophia is polite, respectful, hard-working and she always brings a positive attitude. Sophia will attend the Star 1-4 competition in Burnaby in March, as well as participate in our ice show EnChANted Evening at the Movies on March 9. Keep up the good work, Sophia.” Sophia said, “What I love about skating is the freedom of movement, and I like how creative I can get with it. My favourite thing in skating is my coaches – they are really amazing and I’m really lucky to have them. They have helped me so much. When I’m not skating I like to play the ukulele, spend time with family and friends, and read.” Well done on all your hard work, Sophia! Congratulations from the Sunshine Coast Skating Club.
