Editor: Weathering the physical and psychic storms of the next few months on the Sunshine Coast are surely going to test our mettle. I felt more reassured about this after reading Hugh Macaulay’s column, “The healing power of art,” in the Sept.

Never underestimate the power of voter self-interest. The NDP didn’t in 2017 when their bold pledge to remove the tolls on the Port Mann and Golden Ears bridges helped them win enough suburban Vancouver seats to form a minority government. Now the B.

On the eve of the 2017 B.C. election, I used this space to plot a potential path to victory for the B.C. NDP and, wouldn’t you know it, they followed it almost to the letter.

Editor: Thank you for publishing the letter from Dale Morgan about the closure of the Gibsons swimming pool (“Gibsons needs its pool,” Sept. 18).

Editor: Since Aug. 24, masks have been mandatory on public transit. This is a most excellent plan, as it is in fact impossible to socially distance yourself properly on a bus. There is no better place to pass on a virus than on public transit.

Editor: Re: “Sechelt to explore software to track short-term rentals,” coastreporter.net Sept. 21.

Editor: Sechelt needs to update both the regulations for short-term rentals (STRs) and zoning. Allowing a commercial business to operate in a single-family-zoned area should never have been allowed.

Editor: As a user of both the Gibsons pool and the Aquatic Centre in Sechelt on an average of three times per week in better times, I find it amazing that the SCRD deprives the citizens of Gibsons the use of one of our best fitness facilities for tho
