I don’t know who is doing a Sechelt community phone survey. If anyone knows, please pass on the information.
I hope no one relies on the results of this survey, as it was in bad form and asked questions for which true opinions might not be provided for fear of reprisal.
I asked the surveyor who had commissioned the survey, and I was told they are not allowed to know. That’s odd and raises suspicion.
The questions asked included: “Are you in favour of Asian investment in the community?” This is quite pointed, and if someone was opposed, do you think they would respond with their true opinion, especially to an anonymous caller who does not know who they are calling on behalf of? Foreign investment may have been the better term, but would likely not answer the question they were seeking. No one would want to respond with anything but a yes for fear of being accused of being discriminatory or racist.
Further, being asked if you found the following individuals: Bruce Milne, Alice Lutes, John Henderson, Cam Reid, Keith Thirkell, Darren Inkster, Tom Lamb, Darnelda Siegers and Mike Shanks favourable or not favourable is another question that some would be very reluctant to express their honest opinions about. I did notice a few of the current councillors’ names were missing and I wonder why they weren’t included.
